Sophie Wrenchey Gallery seeks artists

Fremont Baptist Church is looking for student, emerging and experienced artists to display their work at the Sophie Wrenchey Gallery located in the church. Works need not be of a religious nature, though Fremont Baptist does ask artists to consider the children in their audience.

The Sophie Wrenchey Gallery is open when the church sanctuary is in use for events such as worship services, weddings and concerts, or by appointment. The Gallery includes three walls totaling about 20 linear feet of display space.

Fremont Baptist Church is located at 717 N 36th St. For more information, call 632-7994.

Seattle Public Theater offers kids' workshops

If there are budding thespians in your home who need something to do this summer, you may want to check out the Seattle Public Theater's children's workshops at the Bathhouse Theater at Green Lake.

The drama workshops, which vary in length and theme will each end in a production. Seattle Public Theater will offer programs for kids from grades three through 12. The workshops will run from July 9 to Aug. 17.

Perhaps the best news is that scholarships are available. In April, the City's Department of Neighborhoods announced a Small and Simple Project Fund Award of $9,059 to the Green Lake Community Council, which will help support the program and provide both full and partial scholarships.

Shana Bestock, education director at Seattle Public Theater, said that the scholarships will be need-based, although candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the program. While the theater did run successful workshops last summer, they'd like more participants, 140 kids to exact, this time around.

"Tremendously creative, wonderful things are happening inside (the Bathhouse Theater)," Bestock said. "My goal is to use the Bathhouse as the community resource it should be." For more information, call 328-4848.
